As an article in Forbes noted, sustainable design in the commercial building sector is anything but a niche, as green buildings will account for nearly $145 billion in new construction and an additional $18 billion in renovations by 2015.
Among the residual benefits of all this eco-friendly design is a positive impact on related jobs, such as landscape architecture. With increased demand for LEED-certified projects, the need for landscape architects has increased. As a result, the current job outlook for the profession is looking positive, with growth projected at 14% over the next 20 years.
To make sure there are enough qualified people to fill those positions, the American Society of Landscape Architects has recently introduced two new educational resources that will help teachers and students alike understand the value of the profession and why it’s a perfect career for art- and science-oriented students.
